New Google Apps developer tools, including App Engine java runtime and Secure Data Connector

Tonight we held a Campfire One event where we announced a number of new developer tools for Google Apps customers and commercial developers of all types. These new tools include a preview release of Java language support for Google App Engine and the Secure Data Connector, which makes it easier to connect applications running in Google's cloud with on-premise systems.

Google App Engine billing now available

Today the App Engine team announced formal pricing and the ability to pay for resources beyond the free quota.

The free quota is still there, but now your app can grow beyond it, and do so in a controlled manner. You can set a daily budget for your app that represents the maximum amount you're willing to pay for computing resources each day.

We think the price point of Google App Engine combined with the ability to integrate Google App Engine apps with Google Apps presents a good opportunity for solution providers to serve their customers in new ways.

Google Documents List Data API now supports downloads too

We have enabled programmatic document creation, upload, and search for Google Docs for some time, but had not provided an API to download these documents.

That common feature request is now closed -- check out the following blog post for more information on the new download API, which allows authenticated applications to download documents in a number of different formats, including pdf, doc, ppt, swf, and xls:
